On the first night of our Freedom Festival in the center of Kakamega, Kenya, I felt strongly as I began to preach that the presence of the Lord was already “soaking” the field before we prayed for anyone. So, I first asked the crowd to check their bodies to see if they could find any of the pain they may have come with. As they did so, the look of surprise on many faces was priceless! Over 50 people indicated that they had been healed just by showing up to the Festival grounds! What a wonderful display of God’s eagerness to heal!
Next, I preached on Jesus’ command to his disciples to heal the sick [Matthew 10:8; Lk 10:8] and then paired up the Christians with those standing next to them that still needed healing. When I discovered that there were not enough Christians to pray for the sick people, it seemed an appropriate time to invite the pre-believers on the field to receive Christ as their Savior so that we might then have enough believers to pray for each of the sick!
When many indeed received Christ, and then joined the other believers in the “healing army” on the field, I then instructed this combined force of new and “old” believers to command healing of the bodies of the sick people who had their hands raised to indicate healing needs. The result? ALL of the sick on the Festival field were healed by the people in the crowd praying for each other! Bwana asifiwe! [Lord, be praised!]
